Rango (2011)

Rango is a sheltered chameleon living as an ordinary family pet, while facing a major identity crisis. After all, how high can you aim when your whole purpose in life is to blend in? When Rango accidentally winds up in the gritty, gun-slinging town of Dirt - a lawless outpost populated by the desert's most wily and whimsical creatures - the less-than-courageous lizard suddenly finds he stands out. Welcomed as the last hope the town has been waiting for, new Sheriff Rango is forced to play his new role.

Rise of the Planet of the Apes (2011)

A single act of both compassion and arrogance leads to a war unlike any other -- and to the Rise of the Planet of the Apes. The Oscar-winning visual effects team that brought to life the worlds of Avatar and Lord of the Rings is breaking new ground, creating a CGI ape that delivers a dramatic performance of unprecedented emotion and intelligence, and epic battles on which rest the upended destinies of man and primate.

Fast Five (10th June 2011)

I realize Vin Diesel and Paul Walker have had their ups and downs when it comes to the success of the Fast and the Furious series. The movies aren’t for everyone, showcasing lots of terrible acting, but the series has always had a special place in my heart – not Tokyo Drift though, that deserves a special place in Hell. Car wheelies, NO2 and Jordana Brewster? Fast Five is not that bad.

X-Men: First Class (2nd June 2011)

The first X-Men will always have a special place in film history. It was the first comic book adaptation to show audiences – and studios – that films depicting spandex wearing heroes could be quite a spectacle to behold. Thus began the “Marvel/DC Effect” with every possible comic being put forward as a potential film franchise.

I Am Number Four (18th February 2011)

Now this looks epic! Alex Pettyfer, whom you may remember from Alex Rider: Stormbreaker, takes up the lead as Number Four in this sci-fi film about people with groovy powers who are being hunted by…something – the trailer isn’t too specific. But what the I Am Number Four trailer does show off looks really good, with badass people in black coats being badass and people with glowing hands throwing stuff around. With luck this might very well turn into the next big sci/fi franchise.

Thor (29th April 2011)

Definitely one of the most anticipated comic book films of 2011. Thor (with the titular hero being played by Star Trek’s Chris Hemworth) will follow the rise of the legendary warrior/demigod of Norse mythology. Sneakily referred to at the end of Iron Man 2, past the credits that is, Thor will form part of Joss Whedon‘s super-tastic-hero entourage ofThe Avengers for 2012 and promises to be one of the biggest releases yet. Oh and Natalie Portman is in it as well.

Pirates of the Caribbean: On Stranger Tides (18th May 2011)

Johnny Depp returns as the lovable scallywag Captain Jack Sparrow, this time in search of the fountain of youth rather than just rum in the latest film in the Pirates of the Caribbean franchise. Although it seems likely that there will be an abundance of that too.

Rio (2011)

When Blu, a domesticated macaw from small-town Minnesota, meets the fiercely independent Jewel, he takes off on an adventure to Rio de Janeiro with this bird of his dreams.

Cars 2

Any four year old boy addicted to sugar and allergic to all sweets coloured orange will disagree with much stamping of fist, but Best For Film believes that Cars was the weakest venture from Pixar Animations. And we’re adults, so kids have to agree with us and do what we say. Racing star Lightning McQueen teams up with his best friend Mater for an international adventure as they go up against the world’s fastest cars. Owen Wilson will provide one of the voices. In cinemas October 22, 2011.

Kung Fu Panda 2

Po joins forces with a group of new kung-fu masters to take on an old enemy with a deadly new weapon. The list of voice actors in this DreamWorks animation reads like a who’s who of Hollywood: Angelina Jolie, Dustin Hoffman, Jack Black, Gary Oldman, Seth Rogan… as incredible a list as a panda that does kung fu. In cinemas June 17, 2011.
